Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror!

CMP is co-hosting Music & Film Salons this fall at Petit Ermitage with Darby Gaelle Hannon and BLKBRD Films.

On Monday, October 28th we hosted a screening to celebrate the release of David Lee Fisher’s latest film, NOSFERATU: A Symphony Of Horror, released on AppleTV and Amazon Prime on October 18th.

Nosferatu is very close to the CMP family. Sarah Carter stars in the film alongside Doug Jones, who Sarah worked with on Falling Skies for five years.

We opened the night with live music from Eban Schletter, the composer for Nosferatu, followed by the screening of the film. After the screening, we hosted a Q&A with David Lee Fisher, Doug Jones, Sarah Carter, and various cast and crew member.

Sarah was five months pregnant with her daughter Alice while shooting Nosferatu in 2017.

Part of the magic behind NOSFERATU: A Symphony Of Horror is how every scene digitally mixes us new actors and dialogue with the backdrops of the same scene from the original silent film. We performed in front of a green screen, and lit to match the same set Max Schrek played on in 1922.

About the Filmmaker: David Lee Fisher

Growing up the son of a NASA engineer, David began his career at video game giant SEGA working on classic titles such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Doom. Later he produced and directed animated content for companies including Electronic Arts, Apple and Sony Playstation where he was awarded both a Sundance selection, and also Best Story and Best Director award at ACM Siggraph. He then moved into filmed entertainment winning Best Film & Director at the Los Angeles Instant Film Festival, and soon after writing and directing the groundbreaking re-imagining of “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari;” for which he received Best Visual Effects, Best Cinematography and Audience Choice awards from Screamfest Film Festival, and the Saturn Award from the Academy of Science Fiction. He also combined forces with the immortal Marvel Comics founder Stan Lee to write and develop original animated entertainment for Cartoon Network.

In David’s latest written and directed film, “Nosferatu – A Symphony of Horror,” the silver screen’s first vampire rises once again from his shadowy coffin. Through combining modern film-making techniques with classic storytelling, this new version of Nosferatu blends modern-day actors, sound, and music with backgrounds and scenic elements restored from the original silent 1922 film. The stunning result is a never-before-seen cinematic “remix” of the legendary horror masterpiece!

Actor Emrys Cooper stars opposite Sarah Carter.

Joely Fisher stars. Her husband Christopher Dubby is the film’s cinematographer.

Our next event on Monday, November 18th will feature Dennis Hopper’s 1980 feature, Out of the Blue.

If you have a short film or feature you would like to submit for consideration please contact Sarah Carter, Darby Hannon or James Oliver directly, or contact us below with a link to your film, a short bio, and a description of the project. We are currently curating a celebration of women in film, so be sure to submit and look out for more information on that event.

We are also curating a night of shorts with Gio Baladessa, the founder of Not Film Festival, for another magical evening in December.

Sarah LaBrie Book Launch w/ Palma Collective

On October 22nd, CMP hosted a book launch for Sarah LaBrie’s new memoir, No One Gets to Fall Apart, published by HarperCollins. This intentional cacao ceremony and women’s circle was an incredible experience to support Sarah with the release of her courageous story.

The story follows La Brie’s journey to trace her family history of mental illness, from the dysphoria that plagued her great-grandmother, a granddaughter of slaves, to her own experience with depression as a scholarship student at Brown. At the same time, she navigates a decades-long fixation on a novel she can’t finish but can’t abandon, her complicated feelings about her white partner, and a fraught friendship colored by betrayal.

Spanning the globe from Houston’s Third Ward to Paris to Tallinn and New York to Los Angeles, No One Gets to Fall Apart is an unflinching chronicle of one woman’s attempt to forge a new future through a better understanding of the past.

For me, personally…

The day Sarah LaBrie’s new memoir, No One Gets To Fall Apart, was published with with HarperCollins, CMP was invited to host a sharing circle to commemorate the event on a personal level. I’ve been hosting sharing circles for women for years, but this event was particularly special given that it was all women from Sarah’s personal journey, many of whom I had never met and who were professional writers and storytellers. There was a lot of love and a lot of power in the circle. For some, it was their first time working with cacao, which was offered by Meredith from Palma Colectiva. Meredith helped us to drop into the history of this healing ritual while we slowly sipped the bitter chocolate. By appreciating the generations of women who have been gathering to support each other throughout history we activated our awareness of our capacity to radiate light through the broken pieces of our life.

Sarah asked us to connect with our own desires for victory as a way for her to celebrate her own. We were all erupting vicariously in her success and in the freedom she has found on the other side of this incredible accomplishment. We honored our mothers and our grandmothers and their grandmothers, but most importantly, ourselves… our freedom and the courage it takes to claim our birthright, no matter what… to choose something better.

Everyone needs to read Sarah’s memoir. It’s life affirming. Her style is intimate and accessible, but sprinkled with poetry and genius moments of revelation and heartbreak. My takeaway from her book and this event was that we need to celebrate each other more. I’m still buzzing off of her breakthrough. There’s something here for anyone who has had to fight through pain and confusion to live in peace, with full acceptance and recognition of the gifts we are here to give and receive.

Order Sarah LaBrie’s book now, and take the time to give her a rating and personal review. Your support matters so much. When you love something, SAY IT. SHOW IT. SHARE IT.

We can all spread more joy than we know.
